Abstract
Lumbar hernia is a rare surgical entity with herniation through the defect of posterolateral abdominal wall. The lumbar region involved in this hernia is unique with surrounding various structures of the bones and many muscles along with their aponeuroses. The clinical pictures and extents, as well as etiologies are variable; as such, sometimes it is difficult to diagnose and evaluate patients with lumbar hernia. With the evolution of hernia repair, the operative treatment of lumbar hernia has been changed as tension free mesh repair and laparoscopic surgery for indicated cases. In the development of management, there have been many controversies and we can get recent advancement for the treatment of this rare surgical disease. The purpose of this review is to explore the current trends in the management of lumbar hernia on the basis of recent literatures of many achievements.
